In an era of content abundance, what makes a podcast remarkable?

What makes it stand out above others? What makes it an irresistible choice for content consumers who are choosing where to spend their time?

Authenticity. Usefulness. Sustainability. Profitability.

When your show has all four elements, the people in your audience will find it remarkable, and so will you. They’ll connect with it, and so will you. They’ll spread the word proudly, and so will you.

The loyal audience you develop, and your commitment to serving your listeners, will become your unfair business advantage.

  • Authenticity

People need to feel a connection to the content they consume and to the people who create it. How do you, as a showrunner, create this connection? You dig deep to understand yourself, dig deeper to empathize with your audience, and then find the intersection between the two that moves your audience toward their goals.

  • Usefulness

In addition to connecting, listeners need the investment of their time to pay off in the form of education, entertainment, inspiration, or a combination of the three. (And by the way, poor audio quality gets in the way of all three.

  • Sustainability

This is the simplest element of a remarkable show to explain, yet the most difficult to achieve. Hence why the vast majority of podcasts never make it past seven episodes. You have to show up, show up reliably, and show up reliably over time because audiences want the content they connect with to be consistent and reliable — located where and presented when they are conditioned to look for it.

  • Profitability

You, the showrunner, need to get something out of the experience of producing your show to stay committed to it. This can mean direct profit generated from subscriptions for advertising, indirect profit from advertising your own products or services, or intrinsic profit in the form of connection and fulfillment that only you can measure.

These are the four essential elements of a remarkable show.

When you are running such a show, you connect with your audience in a way that cannot be duplicated by any other content medium, not in this ever-emerging age of on-demand audio content.

And a remarkable show is well within your grasp, no matter what level of experience or technical know-how you feel you currently possess. Don’t worry about that.

We’ve got all the tools, tips, and tutorials you need to develop, launch, and run your remarkable show.

“Podcasting is hard. The Showrunner Podcasting Course doesn’t make it easy, but it does make it easier.

Everything about podcasting is in this course and more: how to edit, music selection, feedback on the best headline for an episode, marketing, cover art, even the support when it just all gets overwhelming. Also, the regular ‘Showrunner Huddles’ are awesome.

The content of the training is exactly what I need, and the community alone would be worth the full price of the course.”

~ Geoff Reese

Here’s what we need from you, so that we know you are a good fit for this course: Affirmative answers to three simple questions …

  • Do you have a desire to connect with an audience about a topic that is important to you?
  • Will the content you share educate, entertain, or inspire the people in your audience?
  • Can you commit to creating content consistently and reliably so that your audience has a chance to grow?

Did you answer “yes” to all three? Then you’re ready to create a show that is authentic, useful, sustainable, and profitable.

The end result will be a master showrunner with a remarkable podcast.

You.

We’ll show you how.

“Detailed and practical how-to information from two guys with an impressive podcasting pedigree.”

~ Ben Ramsden

Who are we?

Jerod Morris

Jerod Morris is the VP of Marketing for Rainmaker Digital. He is a veteran podcaster and currently serves as the co-host of The Showrunner and Sites. He is the former co-host of The Digital Entrepreneur and The Lede — Copyblogger’s flagship podcast about content marketing, one of the top business podcasts in the world.

And Jerod also runs shows in his spare time. He previously hosted a twice-weekly show, Primility Primer, as well as The Assembly Call and Podcast on the Brink, two immensely popular podcasts that indulge his love of Indiana University basketball. In fact, The Assembly Call is now simulcast on terrestrial radio in Indiana.

Jonny Nastor

Jonny Nastor, co-host of The Showrunner and renowned host of Hack the Entrepreneur, is like a podcasting sports car: he went from zero-to-crazy audience numbers faster than he ever imagined. Launched in late 2014, Hack the Entrepreneur quickly carved out a spot on the first page of iTunes’s business podcast listings, and the momentum hasn’t stopped.

The thrice-weekly HTE has attracted attention from numerous sponsors, and it led to Jonny receiving a special invite into the initial launch of Rainmaker.FM. The show has featured guests such as Seth Godin, Pat Flynn, Guy Kawasaki, and Brian Clark.

And here is how The Showrunner Podcasting Course will draw on our experience to help you create your remarkable show:

  • 10 modules, each broken into multiple lessons, that cover every facet of developing, launching, and running a podcast
  • The modules include: downloadable video-based lessons (with separate mp3s available), transcripts, and action guides
  • Bonus interviews with the likes of: conversion expert Chris Garrett, podcasting pioneer Jared Easley, product launch expert Jeff Walker, editing professional Toby Lyles, and other successful practitioners of the podcasting craft like Christina Canters and Sonia Simone.
    • Access to “Showrunner Huddles” with Jerod and Jonny where they present on requested topics and answer your specific questions about your show or podcasting in general
    • A members-only discussion group where you get private access to Jerod and Jonny and can ask questions, collaborate, share experiences, and exchange ratings and reviews with fellow course members.

  • And that’s just the start …

“Jerod and Jon have produced a smart, practical course that will help you build a strong foundation of understanding what it takes to create and run a remarkable podcast.”

– Kevin Carlson

What was your main concern about buying The Showrunner Podcasting Course?

Spending the money. I’ve bought a number of courses, and sometimes I wonder if I’m buying things that I could figure out on my own.

What did you find as a result of buying the course?

Totally worth the time and the money. The lessons I have learned helped me to think of my podcast in a much more holistic way. Between the lessons, and the discussions in the huddles and in the Facebook group, the way I was thinking about my podcast was expanded. And I believe my show will be much more remarkable as a result.

What specific feature did you like about the course?

The Facebook group, and the Friday huddles. They make the course a custom experience. Lots of other courses are good, but it’s the feedback on your specific situation that makes it so valuable.

What would be three other benefits of the course?

    1. Access to Jerod and Jonny
    2. A framework for thinking about essential elements of building a remarkable show
    3. A framework for how to make podcasting work for your business

Would you recommend this course to others? If so, why?

Without reservation! Sure, you can learn a lot of this information from searching on your own, but creating a podcast takes enough time and effort on your own without having to go through all the extra work of seeking out information. And sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know. So you wouldn’t know what information to look for. The information presented in the course, as well as the subsequent discussions and issues that are brought up within our group make this course a valuable weapon for anyone who wants to be a Showrunner.

Is there anything you would like to add?

Super impressed with Jerod and Jonny, their level of accessibility, and the detail with which they answer questions. I feel like they both really care about each one of our shows — and it shines through with your level of engagement. I also like that the group isn’t so large now and it still feels intimate. Sometimes when there are thousands of people in a group, it’s hard to feel connected and easy to get overwhelmed. It doesn’t feel that way here at all.

What was your main concern about buying The Showrunner Podcasting Course?

I’d never used an online course before this, so I didn’t know what to expect. I also thought the price was high, but now that I’ve used the course I think it was money well spent.

What did you find as a result of buying the course?

What I’ve liked best about the course to date are the detailed answers it’s given for very practical questions:
    1. How to rank in iTunes
    2. How to invite guests
    3. How to choose a name.
The course has removed a lot of the mystery from these topics.

What specific feature did you like about the course?

The Facebook group is probably my favorite feature. I also like the worksheets and sample schedules and invites, etc.

Would you recommend this course to others? If so, why?

Yes, I would and I have. I’ve done so because I like the practical content and focus on strategic, not gear questions.

What was your main concern about buying The Showrunner Podcasting Course?

I’m a small business initiator with plenty of energy and ideas … and no budget!

What did you find as a result of buying the course?

The course builds logically and goes through the basics, then takes up many important and more complicated issues of marketing, ethics, values. They offer the “content” in a variety of ways — I love the access to written words as well as the more spontaneous and textural audio sessions.

What specific feature did you like about the course?

The very best feature is that questions continually arise as we get deeper into the work. Both hosts genuinely address questions — in huddles and group sessions, in Facebook discussions, and in fast responses to emails — as some of our questions are really so specific to our own (in)experience.

Would you recommend this course to others? If so, why?

    YES! see the above

What was your main concern about buying The Showrunner Podcasting Course?

I thought it was more for beginning podcasters. I had already been podcasting for 10 months when I heard about the course.

What did you find as a result of buying the course?

It has been helpful for me. My podcast needed some fine-tuning and I did get some good ideas watching the course videos. For example, my podcast has improved by adding music interludes in between my intro and interview and then after my interview before my outro. I learned it’s better to have a length for interviews in the 30-35 minute range. Leave the audience wanting more. My interviews were running too long and my episodes were in the 50-60 minute range. I like to try and keep them in the 40-45 minute range at the most. I learned this from the course videos.

What specific feature did you like about the course?

Course videos are strong. Ultimately I bought the course because I like the podcasting style of the instructors, Jerod and Jon. I have learned a lot from the other students in the course via the Facebook group. The access to Jerod and Jon has been amazing — they are both very conscientious and helpful.

What would be three other benefits of the course?

    1. Helping you structure your podcast.
    2. Good editing ideas.
    3. Huddle sessions where the instructors answer student questions — they answered one of mine and it was very helpful.

Would you recommend this course to others? If so, why?

I highly recommend this course to help you get your podcast started and to make it better. It’s not a techie/engineering type of course, which I like. And it’s not cheesy trying to sell us other products. I bought the course and I have gotten good value.

Your loyal podcast audience is waiting.
